Because of the recent rain event, the BC River Forecast Centre has upgraded the advisory to a Flood Watch for the Kootenay and Columbia regions. There is also still a high streamflow advisory for the Thompson-Okanagan, Boundary and Upper Columbia regions.
Some areas in the Southern Interior have seen as much rain in the last few days as their June monthly average. Merritt, for example, received 35 mm of rain within three days, and the average for the whole month of June is 34.1 mm.
We have a drier stretch of weather ahead, as the low that was directing all the moisture into the Interior has weakened. Our upper level flow will gradually change from a easterly flow aloft to a drier northerly flow later today, helping to bring us some breaks of sun this afternoon, although we will have to keep in a slight chance of showers for the weekend.
