This morning, there was a sun dog in the sky around the South Coast. What's a sun dog? It is a ring around the sun that can be spotted because of light that is refracted through ice crystals in the atmosphere. We had a clear sky for most of the overnight hours and because of the upper level flow from the northwest - the little big of moisture present in the upper levels is forming the ice crystals.
Sunshine will remain in the forecast this weekend for the South Coast under the influence of a weak ridge, although as this ridge shifts to the east on Sunday, more high clouds will stream in tomorrow. This will also give way to a system that will bring Vancouver Island a few showers during the day Monday, and Metro Vancouver will see the threat of showers by Monday night.
