What's with the smoke?

This SMOKE!!!! Many parts of Canada are dealing with smoky conditions this week.

For us here in the BC Southern Interior, the smoky haze has been hanging over us for several days and it’s all because of a stable weather pattern along with the following…

💨 We’ve had the right wind - a southerly influence - that has been bringing up the smoke from the United States.

☀️ This coupled with warm air aloft and a lack of major weather systems has created a trap for the smoke in our valleys.

🌧 Although we have seen slight improvement the last day or so, we need a weather system that packs a bit of punch for us to see significant improvement. Signs point to this scenario possibly for the weekend. FINGERS CROSSED!!!

Vibrant Sunsets

We often see stunning colourful sunrises and sunsets during the wildfire season because of the smoke in the air.

When the sun is shining through a high concentration of particulate matter - dust, smoke, pollen - it also usually means we have a stable weather pattern, as stable weather patterns encourage little or no air movement, allowing particles to settle near the earth’s surface.

We will continue to see plenty of sunshine under a stable weather pattern over the next few days under a ridge of high pressure for the Southern Interior ... so more spectacular sunrises and sunsets are in store !
